Random Photographs, Thoughts, & Tales | May - June 2025

You can’t fully comprehend our present reality until you’ve wandered the aisles of a Dollar General built into a former Golden Corral.

Sawyer Point:

My favorite park in Cincinnati.

I don’t know this for a fact (and this “fact” will probably mean nothing to anyone), but: I’m pretty sure those speakers are the same models installed at Kings Island’s original “Waterworks” water park in 1988/89—which would’ve been around the same time Sawyer Point was built.

I have a really fun story that I’ve been working on lately and it’s almost ready, but in one section of the draft that I decided to cut: I instructed readers to “read it in Keith Morrison’s ‘Dateline’ voice.” I realized that this was a very specific reference and the joke wasn't going to translate to most people, but I mention this to say: if you run into me on the street, I’d be more than happy to do my Keith Morrison impression for you.

Updated “the list” and have some fun stories on the way, but In the meantime: we’ll end on some genuinely heartfelt and heartwarming goodbyes I recently overheard between a bartender and some guy who was talking her ear off about all of his schemes in life.

“I hope you get where you’re going and then get exactly where you’re supposed to be.”

- Bartender

“Thank you, [redacted]. Get to Florida and enjoy the life you deserve!”

- Some guy

…while transcribing those quotes from my note just now, I heard the same bar get lit up with bullets. Everyone is apparently ok, however.

What a stupid world.

Since 2007, the content of this website (and its former life as Queen City Discovery) has been a huge labor of love.

If you’ve enjoyed stories like The Ghost Ship, abandoned amusement parks, the Cincinnati Subway, Fading Ads, or others over the years—might you consider showing some support for future projects?
